The third edition of the Telefónica Mobile Data Challenge is now open. Organised by the Telefónica UPF-UPC Chair, the competition is aimed at bachelor's and master's students from all Catalan universities.
Participants will work in teams of up to five people over 10 weeks, using real-world mobility and presence datasets provided by Telefónica Tech to develop solutions to social challenges in areas such as tourism, sustainability, public transport and coexistence.
The competition is structured into three selection phases. Teams that make it through the first phase will receive mentoring from Telefónica Tech data experts to support the development of their projects. Projects can also be coordinated with a bachelor's or master's thesis (TFG or TFM), allowing students to combine their academic work with participation in the challenge.
The deadline to register and submit a proposal is 16 October 2026.
Teams selected for the second phase will be announced on 23 October and will have until 4 December to submit their final project.
The competition will conclude with an in-person final on 21 January 2027.
